Literacy

A Comprehensive Approach to Standards-Informed Literacy Instruction to Create Independent Thinkers, Readers, and Writers.  Scholastic Literacy is a unique blended learning approach to standards-informed comprehensive literacy instruction with a focus on balancing the rigor and flexibility that educators need to meet today’s high expectations. With unparalleled access to authentic and culturally relevant texts in every area of the literacy block, Scholastic Literacy is designed to engage readers, support social-emotional development, and help students become lifelong independent thinkers, readers, and writers.

Literacy instruction that incorporates authentic texts supports young readers in their quest to learn language and vocabulary and build reading comprehension skills. Through Scholastic’s unparalleled collection of print and digital content, students interact with authentic texts each day during whole-class, small-group, and independent reading. Scholastic Literacy includes up to 1,200 authentic texts per classroom. Authentic texts are real, living language written to engage, entertain, inform, or persuade readers. They also: Invite active reading, robust problem-solving, and deep analysis. Instruct on their own with rich content and language. Provide natural scaffolding for the reader—the structure and patterns of real language support comprehension. Help students understand how language works in the real world and invite them to take part in that world.
